Our speakers are local experts and scholars with deep knowledge of Detroit and regional history. Undergraduate composers at the UW School of Music explore new sonic landscapes in this year-end concert of original music.The Detroit Historical Society’s Speakers Bureau connects corporate, non-profit, community and affinity groups to Detroit’s story and why it matters. June 3, 7:30 PM | Undergraduate Composers Concert, Brechemin Auditorium Special guest for this performance is actor Garret Dillahunt. The orchestra is joined by the combined University Choirs in a performance of Fauré: Requiem, Op.48, with Giselle Wyers conducting. The UW Symphony (David Alexander Rahbee, director) performs works by Stravinsky, Poulenc, and Fauré in this end-of year performance. June 2, 7:30 PM | UW Symphony and Combined UW Choirs with Garret Dillahunt, Meany Hall Student jazz ensembles coached by Cuong Vu, Marc Seales, Ted Poor, and Steve Rodby pay homage to the icons of jazz and break new ground with original progressive jazz compositions. June 1, 7:30 PM | Jazz Innovations, Part II, Brechemin Auditorium His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in Helsinki, Finland and various cities in Peru, and has been included in various collective exhibitions in Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Germany, Spain, the United States. Jorge Miyagui is a celebrated visual artist, trained at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. He is active in public, collaborative and multi-media artistic collaborations like “Peruvian Art after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.” His work has been showcased internationally in Cuba, El Salvador, the United States and throughout Peru. Mauricio Delgado is an award-winning visual and performance artist, trained at the Institute of Visual Arts Edith Sachs.

Henry staff conduct two studio visits and work closely with the students to facilitate their projects and prepare them for exhibition at the museum. Throughout their programs, fine arts and design students work with advisers and other artists to develop advanced techniques, expand concepts, discuss critical issues, and emerge with a vision and direction for their own work. The Henry Art Gallery will present the UW’s School of Art + Art History + Design Master of Fine Arts and Master of Design thesis exhibition.
